the Design Concept - It all begins with an idea.
This was one of my first projects to embark on after setting up my sewing studio. I’ve wanted to make quilts for a long time, but not in the traditional way. I approached these quilts to reflect a simplified version of the fashion design process I became so accustomed to working in. Starting with a style concept mood board for each of the 3 designs I settled upon, then to sourcing, actualizing, photographing, and marketing.
However, the execution was far from simple, and these works of art were hard to replicate, which goes against the grain of production.
These originals now live with family and friends as gifts, as they proved hard to sell for the amount of time, effort, and labor put into them.
Sometimes design and development does not return monetary value, but the skills exercised on many different levels are experientially valuable.
